Another article that caught my fancy talks about the hair trade in India. Ever wonder where your wig or extensions come from? It appears that pilgrims who visit Hindu temples offer their hair as part of a purification rite or as a good luck offering. Their lengths are washed, bagged, and sold for up to $250 a pound. The pilgrims don’t get paid but the temples make money on this deal. Chinese buyers snap up the product. Other export sources may be Indonesia, Italy, and Russia, where hair used to come from prisoners. Synthetics, anyone?
