GOAL REVISIONS

Last week, I set myself a new page quota per week. I intended to write 7 pages a day or 35 pages a week. I’m sorry to say, I missed the mark by ten pages. I think I’m too accustomed to my five page a day quota, but I have to increase production for a longer book. My goal is to finish the current work in progress. I figured if I have 350 pages left to go, and I write 35 pages per week, I can finish the book in 10 weeks, plus additional time for vacations. The trouble is, those vacations are looming and I have many things to do beforehand. How can I concentrate when I have to gather my handouts and promo materials, remember my camera, throw the Bonine into my suitcase? So I’m reevaluating my target. Maybe it would be bettter to raise my quota by one page a day rather than making such a leap. Or maybe it’s just that I know my train of thought will be interrupted by another long weekend in Orlando followed by a nine day cruise, and the week afterward I’ll need to catch up on mail. Plus I have to fit in appts with the accountant, hairdresser, manicurist, etc. within the next shortened two weeks. So why not start the vacation now, huh? Give me a good reason to focus on work instead of what to pack.

Today’s weather is dreary and cool. I like to cook in cooler climates, so check my website Recipes page for some new additions. It's also a perfect day to curl up with a good book!

You're a fast writer, Toni. I am slow but steady. I did my five pages today, no problem, but I stopped there. It's hard to break the mental barrier after having that page goal for so many years. I'm not worried about you. You can zip them out when required.

Curling up with a book sounds good. I'm visiting my son and his wife and my new grandson in Colorado. For a Floridian, it's more than 'cool' outside. Temperatures in the single digits, and fluffy white stuff falling from the sky.

How nice that you get to see snow, Terry! It's such a rarity for us Floridians. We'll miss you at the signing this week.
My friends, I'll be at Borders in Altamonte Springs this Saturday at 1:00 pm. Stop by if you're in the area.

I sort of work in spurts. I still have one at home as I home tutor, and have a on line business and so I have to sort of squeeze it in as I can so I work way into the night sometimes.

BTW, remember when I asked you about query letters? I guess I did ok as my manuscript was accepted. I am soon to give birth to Book no. 2. It is a good feeling isn't it when the publisher likes it!

My book that was accepted is about a radio dj who does dedications and has a highly successful show. She can solve everyone elses problems but her own. She has to learn to be her authentic self, with her own self. I'm still a little stunned as this publishing house is a step up from the first one, not that the first one was bad, it wasn't but it was a start for me. I am trying to write books that are funny and entertain but have a little message in it as well. Not a preaching message but a 'thinking one.' I'm still a little shocked as you if you can remember Nancy I was a little stressed out about my query letter. It had to be 300 words and I kept coming up with 308 but then I was counting in the TO: FROM: etc etc. I think I will frame that query letter as it took me quite a long time to do it!!
I haven't even looked over my contract yet, I am still kind of stunned actually.
