ON THE JOB

I’m happy to say that I just completed five pages of my work in progress. Unfortunately, that’s it for today. We’re having our driveway resealed, and two guys are right outside my office window banging away. Tomorrow, I have a hair appointment and am meeting two friends for lunch. Then we leave for an overnight at Fort Myers where I’m speaking at the history museum as their guest author. On Friday, we’re having our air ducts cleaned out, so forget being able to concentrate that day with rumbling noises and men trooping throughout the house. And then there’s a meeting with Florida Romance Writers. That brings us to the end of the week. Thank goodness I’m not on deadline, but I would like to get back to my steady pace of writing. Spare time isn’t lost, however. I’m researching other author’s websites in preparation for jazzing up my own. I’ve switched from my old Netscape mail program to Microsoft Outlook. I am taking an online writer’s course and now have a presence on Facebook. So work proceeds, it’s just not always words on the page.

I bought the book Hair Raiser. You have a new born fan in me! I just got it today.

Also, I am a writer but I am a novice writer. I only have one book published. If I were to find a Wisconsin Romance Writers group would I be qualifed to join? I go to the Writers Workshop at the U. of Wales at Caerleon (UK) but then we are sort of a crazy bunch of people who are poets, writers, journalists, and just a pile of wannabees.

Barbara, go to http://www.rwanational.org. You can join national RWA and look for local chapters. You'll be eligible to enter writing contests, attend conferences, and learn about the biz from seasoned authors.

I know what you're going through, Nancy. One of my goals is to do something "writerly" every day, which covers things like research, doing a blog post, editing, working on a presentation. I'm taking the Story Magic workshop this weekend and hope it jumps starts something new. My agent has my current WIP, and until I get her take on it, I'm floundering as I try to decide which road to take next. I do wish I was writing something new, though. I'm tempted to work on another short story while I wait to find out if my story concept could be sold as a series.

One thing always leads to another, and suddenly time is gone. I'm having to say no to everything these days to make my deadline next month. But with your dedication to writing, I'm not too worried about you. :)

Thanks, Lisa. I've been away for one overnight and it's taking me all week to catch up. I have done no writing in that time. Maybe I'll be able to get two chapters written before we leave on our next trip to Orlando and then on our 9 day cruise. AFter that, I'll have no excuses...er, wait. SleuthFest is next month!

Work proceeds, even if it isn't words on the page--thanks for validating what many of us think, but are chicken to admit!
