THE LUXE

THE LUXE by Anna Godbersen.

A Harper Teen Novel

ISBN: 978-0-06-134566-1

Scandal, sex, and sacrifice...THE LUXE has it all! Manhattan’s upper crust society in 1899 adores beautiful Elizabeth Holland, daughter of a wealthy family and a paragon of proper behavior. But little do her peers know that Elizabeth harbors a scandalous secret, one that would ruin her family should the truth be told. A jealous friend, a resentful maid, and her own sister threaten to undermine her position in society. Will Elizabeth be able to maintain her cool facade, or will she crumble under pressure?

A mystery underlies the story which begins at Elizabeth’s funeral. Apparently, she’s the victim of an accidental drowning right before her wedding to sought-after bachelor Henry Schoonmaker. As we read about the preceding weeks, we see how she is compelled to marry Henry, and how the other three girls wish she’d disappear from their lives. Was her death an accident? Or is foul play involved? Read the book to find out. Although it’s targeted at a young adult audience, it’ll appeal to all historical romance fans. A clever plot, well-drawn characters, and fascinating details about life among the rich and famous will keep you turning pages.
